WIP

An Update on Me.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted. Nano2016 was another fail, but I beat my personal bet. I managed to write 42,483 words, this included finishing the WIP I had been working on – Girls and Boys, a novel set in 1990s London – and starting a novella linked to the novel. While I’m disappointed to not have ‘won’ at Nano yet again, I am so proud that I didn’t give up halfway through week one and I finished a first draft.

Since the end of November, I have had shorts released as part of boxsets. These sets were released by Papergold Publishing and if you check out the books page, you can find the buy links for them both. They are only available on Amazon as an ebook. I’ll share the covers and the blurbs for each of my shorts:

Mile High: Part of the Pleasure Me boxset – Erotica and steamy romance

When Taryn Caine was assigned a long haul flight on a private jet hired by Blazed, the hottest new band around, she never expected to end up screwing the lead vocalist, Max Reeves.

Max certainly rubbed Taryn up the wrong way from the moment he stepped foot on the jet, but can he rub her the ‘right’ way by the end of it?

I’m pleased to announce that this short has been picked up by Papergold Publishing as part of their new 18+ imprint Liquid Gold. I don’t have any details of release just yet, but as soon as I know, you’ll know.

While You Were Asleep: Part of The Winter Wishes boxset – heartwarming tales set during winter and around Christmas

When Jared Keating is admitted into hospital after being beaten up and left for dead, his family and friends wait for him to wake up. In the hopes he can hear them, they all spend a little time with him, recalling memories of good times with him, letting him know that they can’t live without him in their lives.

Anger and sadness overwhelm them when they come face to face with the reason Jared is in a coma, but they soon understand that no one is to blame other than his ruthless attackers.

Will he wake up? Will he still be ‘Jared’ if he does?

I shall probably be self publishing this once the boxset is dissolved, but I am undecided for now. Again, I’ll let people know once I decide.

Also, I have been confirmed as an author at an Hourglass event in 2018. It’s in March in Leeds. If you keep an eye on my events page, I’ll update details as and when I have them. I’m hoping to have a deposit paid for a 2nd event in 2018 in Birmingham, but that will have to wait until the new year as I need to pay for Christmas first… You may not have realised that I had to withdraw from the Titanic signing in Belfast. I’d looked through everything I had committed myself to and realised that I simply couldn’t afford it, so unfortunately I had to pull out. Hopefully, I’ll be able to attend as a reader and I wish everyone the best with it.

My plan for 2017 is to finish all the WIPs I have started. I would like to get them finished and edited so I can release as and when I am ready, keeping up a consistent release schedule. I have offered Papergold first refusal on anything new I release, but I will still be self publishing also. I’d like to have a good mix of indie and traditional works on the market.

Another thing I shall be working on improving, is sending out regular newsletters. If you’re interested, subscribe here.

So, I guess I best get writing and finish some more manuscripts.

#nano2016 – Day 23. I’m just getting started for the day.

nanowrimo_2016_webbanner_participant

Day 23 – Forgive me readers for I have been too quiet. It has been a few days since my last update…

I have to admit. Nano2016 is knackering me out. I’m up til 11-12pm writing – which isn’t that late in the grand scheme of things, but it’s more draining staring at a computer than anything else. I have to admit, I’m so glad it’s almost over (just one more week) despite how proud I am of myself for not only sticking it out, but for being on target.

Today’s word count: 0 I haven’t started writing yet – total for NaNo –37,734

Story word count: 61,880 – However, only 59,580 of those are for Girls and Boys. I finished that yesterday (Day 22) and I started writing an accompanying novella. I’m not spilling much about this book just yet, other than it’s going to be much more emotional than I first realised. If I don’t make you cry, you’re like me. Cold Hearted!

14925562_1199414763448341_640266655109632964_n

I’m about to get started for the day (after I make a fresh cup of tea) and I’m only 599 words away from today’s target, so I can take it a bit easy if I want. I’d like to hit at least 2k if possible, to get me ahead again, ready for the weekend.

14650204_1792124314379443_3021280929979772598_n

I’m hoping to have a few new teasers for you b the end of the day. I just hope you’ve been enjoying them as much as I have!

If you are writing during Nano… may the odds be ever in your favour and I wish many words fall from your fingertips!

#nano2016 – Day 18. Getting There Slowly.

nanowrimo_2016_webbanner_participant

Day 16 – I haven’t updated in a while. There’s a couple of excuses I could give, but mostly I’ve been writing until late at night, then I go to bed and crash out. Simple as that. I can’t remember the daily totals for the days I’ve missed, but I do have some handwritten teasers…

14725663_1792842960974245_7851603578638627987_n

Today’s word count: 851 (so far) – total for NaNo –29,380

Story word count: 53,526 – I do believe I have a problem though. I don’t think I’ll get another 20k out of this story as it feels like it’s winding down. However, I do have an idea brewing for an accompanying novella, so if I do fall short, I’ll make a start on that. Totally counts, right?

14925562_1199414763448341_640266655109632964_n

I’m hoping to get a big chunk done tomorrow as the other half is watching football (soccer) and it then working until 10pm. The kids can play to their heart’s content, but traditionally, I don’t do as well on a weekend.

14650204_1792124314379443_3021280929979772598_n

I have 45 minutes left of the day, so I’d like to get a few more words in if I can. Here’s some more teasers!

#nano2016 – Day 6. I’ll Catch Up, Eventually

nanowrimo_2016_webbanner_participant

Day 6 – it’s currently 7pm, and I’m having a crap few days, writing wise. My word count for day 4 was 493, and my word count for day 5 was 1,439. Both days, I wrote during the day, but was then dragged out to be sociable. Myself and the other half went out drinking on day 4, and then he and the kids made me go to a friend’s house on day 5 to watch fireworks and have a bonfire. I enjoyed myself, but I could have done with pushing myself and writing more.

14725663_1792842960974245_7851603578638627987_n

Today’s word count: 1,131 (so far) – total for NaNo – 7,404.

Story word count: 31,550 – I’d love to add more over the course of the evening, so hopefully this total word count will go up.

Now I need to have some food, and try to write more.

14925562_1199414763448341_640266655109632964_n

Tomorrow will be a low count day too. I have to go take part in a workshop at my son’s school, go shopping for something to wear tomorrow night (Himself is making me go out and be sociable), before going out. I hope I can squeeze a couple of hours in before we go. Finger’s crossed.

Another teaser. It’s another one from Andy Stone – it’s not blowing my own trumpet if I say he gets the best lines…

NaNoWrimo Update

14725663_1792842960974245_7851603578638627987_n

As you know, I’ve succumbed to the madness yet again and have signed up for NaNo 2016. I know I mentioned in the last post about it, that I’d decided to go rebel and work on On the Buses. Well, I still am, only now it’s called Girls and Boys.

I chose this title for two reasons. One is that while the book is, at heart, a romance book, there’s also a ‘bromance’ element to it between Jack and Andy. I love these two idiots and I really hope readers love them as much as I do. Second, the story is set in London in the 1990s and there is a heavy Britpop element throughout.

This title came from the Blur song of the same name as it brings back a lot of good memories of London in that time for me, plus is just fits. If you don’t know the song, check out the video below.

Hopefully, I’ll forge on and get through the month without going mad or giving up. I’ll try and make some time to post updates now and then throughout November!

A Quick Update

Hi all,

I thought I’d write this post to keep you updated on what’s going on in my crazy life (I post on Facebook, but it’s bitty and can be all over the place)

Firstly, I have set up a form for you to subscribe to a newsletter I am working on sending out no more than once a month. If you’re interested in receiving the newsletter, click on the quill in the top right corner of this blog. (Just in case you’re not at a laptop or a PC, HERE’S the link.) I’m aiming for the first to be compiled and sent out after the signing next month (Liverpool, UK, 18/19 March 2016). Check out the events page for more details on this – I hope to see you there. – I am trying to work out if I can have the newsletter post on here as well as being emailed out. . . if anyone knows how to do this, let me know 🙂

It Started in Texas –

When I released it, I kept it exclusive to Amazon via KDP Select. I have now decided that once that expires, i will be uploading it to other platforms including Kobo, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks. This should happen within the next two weeks, and once I have links, I will be sharing them over on Facebook and on the Books page of this blog.

Valentine’s Day Anthology –

As you know, I have co authored a short with the wonderful L. J. Harris for a charity anthology which will be released on Valentine’s Day (4 days to go people!) We have been friends for years, and she is a wonderful Aussie author. This is her first foray into publishing a M/F book – not the last might I add – and she is just fantastic. have you pre ordered yet? If not, why not?

Get your copy NOW for only 0.99. All the royalties will be going to a wonderful charity based here in the UK. The British heart Foundation which strives to help people prevent heart disease which is one of the biggest killers in the UK.

Gage’s POV –

If you follow me over on Facebook, you’ll be aware that I have been working on an accompanying novella to Texas. I can officially announce that the title is . . . Looking Back from L.A.

It’s not a complete retell of the original story from Gage’s POV (I HATE those), but there will be some overlap, but mostly, it’s Gage’s thoughts on some of the more important aspects of his and Charlotte’s relationship, with a few extra bits added in.

I finished the first draft today and sent that over to the amazing R. E. Hargrave for editing. I’m hoping it’ll only need a polish *fingers crossed* and then I can get to formatting it, ready for the pre order to go live.

This will be happening around the time of the Liverpool signing (hopefully), and I am planning on the book itself to go live at the end of March – across multiple platforms straight away.

I am starting to gather information for anyone who would be interested in receiving an ARC copy. If you would like one, please fill out this FORM.

Other than these news updates, I have a few more projects planned for this year, some larger than others, that I will keep you updated about as much as I can. I really want to get more, quality releases out for you all.

Now for the cheeky bit.

If you have read any of my books, please consider posting a review either on Goodreads and/or Amazon (it doesn’t have to be essay length and in depth). Good or bad reviews count. I know I’ve said it before, but reviews of all ratings give authors the feedback they need to be continually improving. If readers don’t let us know if they like/dislike something, we don’t know how to get better. At the end of the day, we write for our readers, and we want to always improve to impress. We can’t do this if you don’t review.

That’s everything from me. If you have any burning questions, don’t hesitate to message me on my Facebook page or via email to mbfeeneyauthor@gmail.

I’m going Camping next month… Join me?

Camp-Participant-2015-Web-Banner

I have decided, in my infinite wisdom, to take part in Camp Nano next month. Usually, NaNo doesn’t work for me, but I’m using Camp to work on Buses in the hopes that I can get the first draft finished!

I’m aiming at around 35,000 words to bring what I already have written to about 50,000. If I do more – YAY, if I do less, then at least I’ve written.

If you want to join me in my cabin, here’s my profile, send me a friend request (or whatever) and we can chat together and support each other. If not, hit me up on FB or Twiter 🙂

Now, here’s the very rough synopsis and a teaser for what I’m working on next month:

Synopsis:

London in the mid 90s. no mobile phones, no mainstream internet, and some great music. Against this backdrop, follow university student Jack and his mechanic best friend Andy as they work out what and who they want in life.

Ruth’s new to the Big Smoke and has never felt more at home. Her path crosses with the best friends, but will a chance meeting be the start of something good or will it lead to her first taste of heartbreak?

My plan for the summer is to get Buses finished (with the help of Camp as I’ve said), to get the next novella (if not next two) in the Exchange Series written, and to make a start on the mammoth job that is reworking an already complete story. It’s standing at around 78,000 at the moment, but that figure will fluctuate like crazy until I’ve finished. I’m also keeping schtum on this project until I’m working on it, because I don’t want to talk myself out of it.

Excerpt:

Rather than answer me, he threw my car keys across the small room at me. “Man. You are my hero.”

“Awww, honey. You say the sweetest things.”

“Fuck off.” I grinned at the feel of my car keys in my hand as I watched him gather his things. “Where you off to?”

“Meeting a chick I got chatting to before your headache meltdown.”

“Mate, we’re not in the eighties anymore. Stop calling women chicks.”

“Yeah, yeah. Anyway, this Emily’s fucking stunning, and I’m hoping she’s stunning at fucking.” My best friend was a complete letch.

“You have such a way with words. Just don’t wake me up again. I don’t appreciate listening to ‘ooh yeah, right there’ for about two hours.”

“You’re just jealous of my sexual prowess. Maybe if you worked harder at satisfying a woman, you’d enjoy the screamers. And you’d last longer too”

“I’ve not had any complaints about satisfying a woman, never mind how long I ‘last’. Now, piss off and leave me alone to watch a video.” Laughing, he walked out, slamming the front door behind him.

This is slated as a romance, but the main story is about the friendship between Andy and Jack… I love these boys and some of my pre readers have already picked a team. What about you? Just from this excerpt, who’s team do you think you might be on?
