Girls and Boys Pre-Order
Release date is 4 July 2017 and the book will be exclusive to Amazon/KU
Day 23 – Forgive me readers for I have been too quiet. It has been a few days since my last update…
I have to admit. Nano2016 is knackering me out. I’m up til 11-12pm writing – which isn’t that late in the grand scheme of things, but it’s more draining staring at a computer than anything else. I have to admit, I’m so glad it’s almost over (just one more week) despite how proud I am of myself for not only sticking it out, but for being on target.
Today’s word count: 0 I haven’t started writing yet – total for NaNo –37,734
Story word count: 61,880 – However, only 59,580 of those are for Girls and Boys. I finished that yesterday (Day 22) and I started writing an accompanying novella. I’m not spilling much about this book just yet, other than it’s going to be much more emotional than I first realised. If I don’t make you cry, you’re like me. Cold Hearted!
I’m about to get started for the day (after I make a fresh cup of tea) and I’m only 599 words away from today’s target, so I can take it a bit easy if I want. I’d like to hit at least 2k if possible, to get me ahead again, ready for the weekend.
I’m hoping to have a few new teasers for you b the end of the day. I just hope you’ve been enjoying them as much as I have!
If you are writing during Nano… may the odds be ever in your favour and I wish many words fall from your fingertips!
As you know, I’ve succumbed to the madness yet again and have signed up for NaNo 2016. I know I mentioned in the last post about it, that I’d decided to go rebel and work on On the Buses. Well, I still am, only now it’s called Girls and Boys.
I chose this title for two reasons. One is that while the book is, at heart, a romance book, there’s also a ‘bromance’ element to it between Jack and Andy. I love these two idiots and I really hope readers love them as much as I do. Second, the story is set in London in the 1990s and there is a heavy Britpop element throughout.
This title came from the Blur song of the same name as it brings back a lot of good memories of London in that time for me, plus is just fits. If you don’t know the song, check out the video below.
Hopefully, I’ll forge on and get through the month without going mad or giving up. I’ll try and make some time to post updates now and then throughout November!
I’d never planned to write a series because I was always worried that I’d never be able to maintain one, but with so many people writing standalone series’, I decided to give it a go.
Admittedly, I copped out a little with The Exchange Series, because they’re all shorts (around 10k each roughly), but I’ve enjoyed it.
Dear Diary and Reluctance are already available, while book three – Repentence – is awaiting formatting and as soon as it’s ready will be released. The fourth – Dear John – is currently with pre readers. This will be the final book in the series, and in the new year, I will be working on combining them into an omnibus paperback.
I have to admit, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with the reception these books have received and a lot of the comments concern the way they’ve been written (diary and journal entries). I’m always pushing myself to be a little bit different where I can, and this format just worked. I will say now though, Repentence and Dear John are not the same format, but they are both different from a straight narrative.
Hopefully, both will be released soon, and I hope you love them as much as I’ve loved writing them.
Here are a couple of short teasers from both:
When his mom first told him a British chick was coming to stay with them, Tyler had been like a shark tasting fresh blood. He was going to charm her into his bed, then let her head back home, he hadn’t forseen her coming back thanks to his brother knocking her up. What choice did any of them have but to have her in the house, this time permanently?
“Hey, where d’you go just then?” Anna’s question brought his attention back to the present. Once again he could feel the warm sand on his bare feet and her small form in his arms. He smiled down at her.
“Sorry, I was thinking about home.” He bent to capture her lips with his own. The kiss making his heart rate pick up as every other kiss they’d shared had done. When he boarded the plane back in Arizona, he’d never expected much to happen on his vacation. He’d planned on lounging on the beach during the day, and drinking in bars in the evenings, but as he was checking into his hotel, he’d spotted Anna struggling with her bags and from the moment he’d helped her into the elevator, his plans had changed.
Plans that had never included falling in love with someone in a two week period.
“As many of you know, I spent a lot of time over in the UK. During my time there, I made many contacts with teachers in schools and one such contact has agreed to take part in this project with us. Inside these envelopes, you will find a name and address of your counterpart at a high school in Brighton, a town on the south coast of England. You will, over the entire semester, exchange letters with them and learn about them, their family, and the culture they associate themselves with in the UK. At the end of the semester, you will present your letters— so keep copies of those you mail out via myself and the school, after all, we don’t expect you to pay for postage to the UK.”
I stared at him, unsure what the point of this assignment was. We’d all learnt how to write letters years ago.
“In this technological age, handwritten letters are a rarity and this saddens me, so I aim to bring them back; even if only for one semester. Maybe some of you will end up with a pen pal for life and continue to correspond with them after this project is over. I predict that many of you will drop your correspondent like a hot potato once the semester is over, but as long as you learn something from them, that is your prerogative. You may open your envelopes.”
The sound of tearing paper filled the air. I slid the single sheet out. The only thing printed on it was:
c/o 78-92 Falmer Academy
Groaning to myself at not getting a female pen pal, I tucked the paper into my bag and waited for Mr. Larsson to continue the lesson.
Hopefully, these will leave you wanting more! As soon as I have dates of release (or they’re live if I’m feeling sneaky), you’ll be the first to know. Make sure you’re following my Facebook Page to keep up to date with everything. That’s usually the first place I post anything.
I thought I’d write this post to keep you updated on what’s going on in my crazy life (I post on Facebook, but it’s bitty and can be all over the place)
Firstly, I have set up a form for you to subscribe to a newsletter I am working on sending out no more than once a month. If you’re interested in receiving the newsletter, click on the quill in the top right corner of this blog. (Just in case you’re not at a laptop or a PC, HERE’S the link.) I’m aiming for the first to be compiled and sent out after the signing next month (Liverpool, UK, 18/19 March 2016). Check out the events page for more details on this – I hope to see you there. – I am trying to work out if I can have the newsletter post on here as well as being emailed out. . . if anyone knows how to do this, let me know 🙂
It Started in Texas –
When I released it, I kept it exclusive to Amazon via KDP Select. I have now decided that once that expires, i will be uploading it to other platforms including Kobo, Barnes & Noble, and iBooks. This should happen within the next two weeks, and once I have links, I will be sharing them over on Facebook and on the Books page of this blog.
Valentine’s Day Anthology –
As you know, I have co authored a short with the wonderful L. J. Harris for a charity anthology which will be released on Valentine’s Day (4 days to go people!) We have been friends for years, and she is a wonderful Aussie author. This is her first foray into publishing a M/F book – not the last might I add – and she is just fantastic. have you pre ordered yet? If not, why not?
Get your copy NOW for only 0.99. All the royalties will be going to a wonderful charity based here in the UK. The British heart Foundation which strives to help people prevent heart disease which is one of the biggest killers in the UK.
Gage’s POV –
If you follow me over on Facebook, you’ll be aware that I have been working on an accompanying novella to Texas. I can officially announce that the title is . . . Looking Back from L.A.
It’s not a complete retell of the original story from Gage’s POV (I HATE those), but there will be some overlap, but mostly, it’s Gage’s thoughts on some of the more important aspects of his and Charlotte’s relationship, with a few extra bits added in.
I finished the first draft today and sent that over to the amazing R. E. Hargrave for editing. I’m hoping it’ll only need a polish *fingers crossed* and then I can get to formatting it, ready for the pre order to go live.
This will be happening around the time of the Liverpool signing (hopefully), and I am planning on the book itself to go live at the end of March – across multiple platforms straight away.
I am starting to gather information for anyone who would be interested in receiving an ARC copy. If you would like one, please fill out this FORM.
Other than these news updates, I have a few more projects planned for this year, some larger than others, that I will keep you updated about as much as I can. I really want to get more, quality releases out for you all.
Now for the cheeky bit.
If you have read any of my books, please consider posting a review either on Goodreads and/or Amazon (it doesn’t have to be essay length and in depth). Good or bad reviews count. I know I’ve said it before, but reviews of all ratings give authors the feedback they need to be continually improving. If readers don’t let us know if they like/dislike something, we don’t know how to get better. At the end of the day, we write for our readers, and we want to always improve to impress. We can’t do this if you don’t review.
That’s everything from me. If you have any burning questions, don’t hesitate to message me on my Facebook page or via email to mbfeeneyauthor@gmail.
As you know, myself and L. J. Harris are collaborating on a story which will be included in the charity anthology which will be raising money for The British heart Foundation. Below is a full list of the authors included and their story titles. Blurbs will be released during the release tour, so you’ll just have to wait for those.
I am also posting a couple of teaser pictures for the collaboration myself and L. J. are almost finished with. We both hope you enjoy . . .
I am honoured to be part of this charity anthology which will be released on Valentine’s Day this year. My story, co-authored with the wonderful L. J. Harris, is about a young couple’s ‘first time’. Please take the time to check out the pre-order link below and help a fantastic UK based charity.
The cover is below, so without further ado…
Eight authors, seven short stories, all with romance in mind.
